Become an apprentice

About becoming an apprentice

The world is changing fast. With fierce competition for jobs there’s never been a better time to have marketable skills. But you don’t need to sit in a class all day to get them. With an apprenticeship you can earn while you’re learning and gain recognised qualifications as you work.

Apprenticeships typically take between one and three years to complete, depending on the type of job you are training for and the level of apprenticeship you follow.

One of the reasons why apprenticeships are so successful is because they are a partnership between an employer and an apprentice. You and your employer will agree the things that you need to learn while following your apprenticeship. You will then need to:

  • Commit to learning and achieving in the workplace
  • Experience the different aspects of your organisation and how it works
  • Recognise that your employer is investing their time, money and resources in you and your future

Employers all over the country recognise and value apprenticeships as they show that you’ve been trained in the skills they need.
