Benefits of employing an apprentice

Why offer apprenticeships?

Research from the National Apprenticeship Service has shown that apprentices are frequently better employees. Employers say that apprentices make better, more motivated applicants, who become more productive employees, who are then more loyal than other employees. In short, they make economic sense.

The government pays for the training for an apprentice so you have access to funded training for one of your employees. You can train a new member of staff or recruit someone new onto an apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship also provide ways of bringing in or targeting the skills you need in your organisation. Through a mixture of on the job training and off job learning apprentices learn the skills that that will equip them to do a particular job. There are a very wide range of apprenticeships available so you can choose the one that will train someone in a role that you need in your organisation. The training that they follow can be flexible and specifically tailored to your organisational needs. In this way, apprenticeships ensure that you have the people in your organisation with the right mix of practical skills and qualifications now and in the future.

Voluntary sector organisations need skilled people and they need young people. Over 130,000 employers offer apprentice places because they understand the benefits that apprentices bring to their business – increased performance, improved service delivery and a committed and competent workforce. A well designed apprenticeship programme will improve your organisation’s performance, fill your skills gap and provide added motivation for your workforce.
