Types of apprenticeship

What jobs can apprentices do?

Decide where in your business you want to offer an apprenticeship. This could be Business Admin, Accountancy, or any one of the 190 different apprenticeship job roles available, each of which are defined in an apprenticeship framework.

Once you have decided on the job description for your apprentice you can choose which apprenticeship framework suits the role best. Your training provider will help you choose from the 190 that are available but you can see a list at www.apprenticeships.org.uk

Frameworks describe the things an apprentices should learn about and know while they are training to do a job. They have been defined and agreed by employers with experience of that job.

There are four parts to each framework and the apprentice must complete all four components to complete their apprenticeship.

  • National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) - train an apprentice in the practical skills needed to do the job
  • Technical certificates - test the knowledge that an apprentice needs to underpin the practical skills they learn through the NVQ
  • Key Skills qualifications – test some of the key transferable work-related skills the apprentice needs to do their job such as IT, teamwork, literacy and number skills
  • General Employment Rights and Responsibilities – teach the apprentice about their employment rights and responsibilities.

There are all sorts of jobs in charities, social enterprises and other voluntary organisations and the frameworks that Fair Train training providers are currently train apprentices in voluntary sector organisations are listed in search for training.
