Apprentices of today mentoring the apprentices of tomorrow!
18th. December 2018
Work Experience students are the Apprentices of tomorrow, the Healthcare Assistants, Nurses, Doctors, Dentists, Pharmacists, Healthcare Science Technicians and engineers of the years to come. Work Experience students simply are our future. And Apprentices can help them on their way!
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to have launched its new and very exciting initiative which utilises the skills of its hugely impressive apprentices to mentor Work Experience students during their placements!
The Trust has almost 200 Apprentices and hopes to enable each of them to support at least 3 Work Experience students during his/her apprenticeship programme.
Learning from their peers is a great opportunity for Work Experience students, but this initiative will also provide an enormous benefit to the apprentices too. They can use the acquired mentoring skills to count towards their qualification and also towards their 20% off-the-job training.
High-quality mentoring within high-quality Work-Based Learning will enhance a student’s chances for success, as s/he will be learning from the mentor’s own story, gaining tips and advice and being motivated by a role model. Mentors will also develop their own personal skills and leadership qualities, enhance their own motivation and confidence, reinforce their own learning and significantly increase their employability and career progression.
"Great work!" Suzanne Hubbard and all her Gold-Level team at the Trust.
