West Herts College give Construction and Engineering students a taster day

at Kier and Jarvis

1st. April 2019

Three groups of West Herts College students from Construction and Engineering courses recently visited the Kier and Jarvis construction site for Watford Riverwell. Watford Riverwell is the largest mixed-use regeneration project in Watford and will deliver new homes, shops, community facilities and open spaces.

The visiting students were given a full site induction, before they were taught about the history of Kier and Jarvis as well as the construction industry. A full site tour saw the students learn that most civil engineering works are hidden below the ground and it could be up to five years before the first bricks are laid. The group of students were shown the plans for the new flats and how there are both first and second fix stages that are integral to the success of the development. The entire site will consist of over 1500 dwellings and will ultimately help finance the new Watford Hospital.

Employability Coordinator for West Herts College, Will Hill, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to look at career paths into construction with two excellent companies, Kier and Jarvis. Thank you to everyone that made this happen and we're excited about working with the two companies in the future."
